| Synopsis | Eliot Asinof's classic sports book tells the tragic tale of the 1919 Chicago White Sox, an unbelievably talented team of athletes playing for peanuts in an era when only the team owners came away with any decent money. As a result, a group of White Sox players arranged to throw the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds, resulting in the team being dubbed "the Black Sox," and eight players being banned for life from the game, including Buck Weaver, a third basemen who knew about the fix but refused to take part in it, and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, a brilliant player who protested his innocence until his deathbed. The book was made into a 1988 film directed by John Sayles.
