Description (revised)

On Apr. 5, 1988, Ellis County's leaders didn't envision the future of Ellis County when the federal government chose the county as the site of the Superconducting Super Collider. I was working in the administrative trailer along with the engineers on the site when it first started up production.

I'm offering a genuine photo copy of the ariel blue print of the site, as well as 3 brochures given to me when I started working on the project. And I'll even throw in a newspaper article written on January 28, 1991 about the collider.

Inside the first brochure, which is  entitled "Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory", are interesting facts, actual diagrams and colorful pictures about the collider and in the back pocket, is a layout entitled "Proposed Key Events of the Superconducting Super Collider". Along with that are 2 sheets entitled "Dallas Facts" and the other entitled "Ft. Worth/Metroplex Facts." Behind them as part of the actual back of the brochure, is a small ariel of the site (not as big as the copy I have). The size of this brochure is 11" x 8.5". There are a couple of pages loose in this brochure but no harm done. Also I highlighted some important facts when I first got the brochure.

The second brochure is entitled "SUPERCONDUCTOR" by Hitachi Cable, Ltd., and is shot full of interesting facts, detailed diagrams and amazing colorful photos of the equipment and parts, as well as a page entitled "Requirement Specification" which is a drawing of Leonardo de Vinci's perpetual motor, from the Iwanami Shoten edition of his "Madrid Manuscripts." It has everything you'd want to know about the collider. The size of this brochure is 11.5" x 8.5".

The third brochure is entitled "Supercollider R&D (research and development), dated March 1988." The SSC R&D program is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Universities Research Association. This tells you about the scientists assigned to the project and how President Reagan endorsed the SSC as a national goal in January 1987.  It has pictures and diagrams about the tests, more diagrams of the magnets, a picture of a computer simulation test, cryogenics, etc. It also has a lot of colorful photos and tons of information regarding the collider. It has a little smudge on the cover, but otherwise is in good condition. The size of this brochure is 11" x 8.5".

I know you will find this entire historical package of information about the collider to be most informative and amazing to see and read, as well as something you will want to pass down from generation to generation.

The U.S. House of Representatives decided in 1993 to halt the project after 14 miles of tunneling were completed and two billion dollars spent.
