Here is a nice condition Emerson Catalin radio up for auction. I believe this radio is in "Original Condition" and is "As Found" as far as I can tell. The cabinet it a rich chocolate brown with beige accents; the picture of the radio on the table is a good representation of the color. The other pictures accentuate the beautiful figuration in the Catalin but aren't accurate color-wise. The knobs are original and operate smoothly, the tuning knob rotates the frequency dial as expected. The clear plastic dial cover is in great, original condition; it's not hazy or fogged like so many that are seen.
There isn't a hardboard back, only the loop antenna covers the tubes; I have never seen a picture of an Emerson "Aristocrat" with a back, so I don't know whether they were sold originally with a back or not. The beautiful Catalin cabinet is in very, very nice condition with rich swirls of light and dark brown. The handle is original and not broken. It extends on springs and retracts just like it should. There is a "stress crack" on the lower right rear corner, which I have pictured. It is clearly a Catalin flaw, not the result of damage or carelessness. There is a "ding" on one of the horizontal bars in the upper left corner which I've also clearly pictured. Those are the only cabinet flaws I'm aware of.
The Emerson Aristocrat has NOT been tested electrically. The operating condition is unknown. I believe all the tubes are in place and the radio MAY work, but no assurance is expressed or implied that the radio works. I have posted many large, clear photographs of the radio, so please look closely. This Emerson Aristocrat is in nice shape and would be a nice addition to a collection.
The Emerson "Aristocrat" and its sibling, the "Patriot" were designed by noted industrial designer, Norman Bel Geddes. Bel Geddes was the father of the late Barbara Bel Geddes, known popularly as Ms. Ellie of "Dallas" TV fame.
The radio will be carefully packaged for safe shipping to your destination. Sorry, USA sales ONLY on this auction.
