A c. 1820 or a bit earlier English engine turned Mocha Ware
Spill Vase in beige, blue, black and white. The vase has engine turned bands
highlighted with blue and black lines through the beige slip field. It is 5 ¼”
high and 4 ½” in diameter at the flaring top. The bottom white band (about 1”
above the white foot rim) is raised, making this a very sophisticated example
of mocha ware. Strong pearlware glaze (note the blue pooling on the bottom).
And you don’t have to use it for spills: flowers would work very nicely!
Vase is in fine condition: good strong colors and no
discoloration. There are 2 faint ½” hairlines coming down from the top edge,
some very slight fritting on the rim,
and three small chips on the foot rim, the largest being actually a
double chip (total of 3 chips) that is mostly on the underside; the other chip
is about ¼” and fairly shallow. One of 2 pieces of mocha I have listed on eBay
this week. Buyer prepays, plus postage.
