The oak framing is as sturdy as it is elegant. These barley twist gate legs swing in and out to support the leaves. This elegantly shaped skirt is unobtrusive because of the overhang of several inches.
     This incredible gate leg dining table, which measures a total of 8.5' x 5', was recently handmade in England using the finest old-fashioned techniques. Starting with the versatile gate leg design, which was invented in Georgian Period England, this dining table was crafted with the utmost fidelity to quality and tradition. The solid oak and yew wood banding, for instance, have been treated to an elaborate finishing process that includes hand-distressing, hand-finishing and a final, hand-rubbed wax coating. This old-fashioned hand-waxed finish means that, as the years pass, the only thing you need to do in order to keep this table looking great is to wax it again. The barley twist frame is also quite convenient, allowing you to store this table when not in use. Finally, because this gate leg dining table is both handmade and solid oak, it is incredibly sturdy and will last for generations to come.
