FINEST ENGLISH GEORGE IV STERLING SILVER CREAM PITCHER & SUGAR BOWL; ELEGANT "BATS WING" FLUTED RAISED OBLONG DESIGN; GOLD WASH; PERIOD CREST, A RISING DRAGON; WALLIS & HAYNE, 1820, LONDON; 20 OUNCES; EXCELLENT CONDITION

This is a beautifully designed and meticulously hand crafted George IV sterling silver cream jug and matching sugar bowl.

From the highly regarded London partnership of Thomas Wallis II & Johnathan Hayne.

Thomas Wallis apprenticed to his uncle Thomas I in 1771. First listed 1778. Hayne was his apprentice in 1796. The pair were listed together from 1810 to 1826. Hayne continued alone quite successfully. So much so, that he sponsored at least six apprentices from 1822-1827 (See Grimwade). An exceptional number.

Examples of their work alone and separately are found in major collections worldwide. Several at the famed Clark Art Institute. The largest collection of period English silver outside of the U.K.

The set in classic raised oblong form.

Elegant "bats wing" fluting, rising from stepped lower section. A favorite design among Georgian tea ware collectors.

Thick, well cast reeded harp form handles. Tapering to end.

The pair supported atop boldly fashioned swirling vine frame acanthus and banded ankle, paw and claw feet. The feet themselves Georgian silver artistry.

Beautifully engraved period crest. A rising dragon with claws outstretched.

This elegant George IV Wallis & Hayne sterling silver crested cream jug is 5 1/2 inches handle to spout and it is 4 3/4 tall. The matching sugar bowl is 7 1/2 inches handle to handle and 5 inches tall. Thick heavy guage sterling construction set weighs 20 ounces.

Hallmarked as shown. Maker and date rubbed on sugar. The cream jug date marked 1820.

In excellent condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina. Stands firm on table or tray. Original gold wash interior. The rising dragon crest retains most of its original brilliant engraved detail.

For the discerning collector of the finest Georgian sterling. An elegant George IV sterling silver bats wing fluted paw and claw foot sugar and cream pitcher. In excellent condition. Adorned with beautifully engraved period crest.

Please feel free to inquire directly about this, or any item we've listed. Whether the item is alone or part of a set. We very much welcome your interest. We are collectors first. As such, we are quite easy to work with.

We happily combine items when shipping, saving you costs. We ship twice weekly, usually US Postal Priority. Fully insured for domestic packages, and air parcel overseas. We charge a bit more than actual cost for custom size boxes, shipping materials and to pay for professional packing.

We make great effort to accurately describe each item listed. Returns are accepted, if either condition, country of origin or dating is significantly incorrect. In such cases we refund your shipping costs as well. Like you, we are only human, and make mistakes. Hopefully, not too many.

Remember, the items you see are antiques. Hence, have an expected amount of wear from normal use. As such, returning an item because we failed to mention the tiniest bit of wear, or barely discernible flaw is not acceptable. Nor do we accept returns based on buyer's remorse. Nor change of taste, or because a buyer did not realize how "small" four inches might be once in hand.

Please note, Massachusetts residents are subject to sales tax.

We have over 5045 feedbacks. And, are quite proud of our 99.% plus rating.

We received favorable notice in the March 12th, 2006 New York Times. Page 8, Business Section, in a well written article on silver collecting. Copy furnished upon request.

From our personal collection, an elegant mid 19th century coin silver basket, from John and Edward Moore, of Tiffany fame. Illustrated in the cover article of May/June 2008 Silver Magazine, page 27.

Enjoy....and good fortune in your bidding.
