ETCH A SKETCH-A 60'S CLASSIC-ONE COLLECTIBLE YOU OUGHT TO HAVE
Etch A Sketch is one of those classic toys that came out of an era when toys were simple, yet fun. Long before computer games, X-box's, game-cubes, MP3-Players, cell-phones and Ipods there were simple, yet imaginative toys that every one of us had to have. Through the years their popularity has grown, but I am fearful those fun-loving classics will soon be forgotten as electronic gadgets of all types draw the attention of this younger generation, away from those icons of the past.
Let me list a few, and then sit and remember your first time to own one of these:
- Hoola-hoops,
- Slinky,
- Silly Putty,
- Easy-Bake-Oven,
- Vac U Form,
- Incredible Edibles,
- Paddle-ball,
- Mystery Date Game
- Puppets
- Marbles,
- Tiddly-Winks,
- Yo-Yo's,
- Spinning tops,
- Rock-em-Sock-em-Robots,
- Mouse-trap,
- Spiro-Graph,
- Four-Wheel Skates (Remember those crazy keys?)
- Jacks
- Clackkers,
- Barbie Dolls and
- Super-Balls.
- But, one of the all-time favorites is, yes, the Etch-A-Sketch. Anybody and everybody had to have one of these when they came out. This is the original Ohio Art Classic #505. It is terribly outmatched if you compare it to a Wii. It only has two simple knobs, yet one thing the Nintendos and Play-stations don't have that the Etch A Sketch does have is...the ability to let you use your imagination in any way you want. What do you want to draw today? What do you want to look like, be like? What shall your house look like, or your pet, or your least favorite teacher? What kind of garden or unique picture shall the mind draw today?
Oh, I love playing X-box, Play-Station Portable and Nintendo-the gaming graphics can't be beat,
BUT, some days I just sit and enjoy my favorite games of my youth, such as
Etch A Sketch, Marbles , a real set of
Clakkers, Pick-up-sticks and others.
This Etch A Sketch is new in it's original box,
never used. The pictures are of my own personal model; rest assured yours is brand new in its original box, untouched!! But, I wanted to
let you remember, once again, the simplicity of a toy, made long ago, still popular, still fun and easier to use than even the most simpliest of cyber-toys of today.
So, I wish you the best of luck as you bid or buy this piece of Americana...an
icon from days gone by, but one which surely brings many good
memories, to those whose first one, though probably gone now, was none-the-less special. Re-live
the fun of drawing and
inventing (great for hand-eye coordination too). If I failed to miss mentioning the name of a
classic toy don't hesitate to tell me your favorite during check-out. Ah...
sweet memories that will always last...
Bless you,
S&S
