DESCRIPTION	Here's a fabulous plate of HEULANDITE crystals from JALGAON on the Deccan Trap in Maharashtra, INDIA. Heulandite is a ZEOLITE, and forms in lovely tabular crystals and parallel aggregates. This cluster of crystals shows CURVED GROWTH, and is TRANSLUCENT with a HIGH LUSTER. Heulandite is one of the most common and one of the most well known members of the Zeolite Group. It can have a nice pearly luster and lovely colored hues. It forms wonderfully complex and quite unique crystals and is often associated with other rare and beautiful minerals. Rarely are the larger crystals transparent, but they always have a certain depth of translucency. Heulandite forms large crystals in the petrified bubbles (called vesicles) of volcanic rocks that have had a slight amount of metamorphism. Huelandite occurs in other environments but does not generally form large well shaped crystals in those situations. Heulandite gets its name in honor of John Henry Heuland, a British mineral collector and dealer. I picked up this beauty from my friend Raj, the "king" of Indian minerals, at the TUCSON GEM & MINERAL SHOW in early February. He holds the leases on 11 mines on the Deccan Trap. His operation is totally vertically integrated, as his employees mine the minerals, clean and prepare the specimens, box and ship them to the U.S., and then he wholesales them to dealers here. Because he controls all aspects of the operation, his prices are incredibly low, and I'm passing the savings on to you.
