Gold Intaglio Ring "Three Standing Figures"

Size: Band diam @ 18mm - Intaglio setting @ 11mm, 6 grams
Description: We are delighted to offer one of the rarest of rings available. A gold Intaglio, an excessively rare object and of some contextual importance. The bezel box is hollow and the band a solid gold type (28 carots). The ring has a beautiful blue set intaglio gem which appears in the hand to describe three standing figures. Although the ring must be classified as Romano , it is highly likely to be a high status Celtic object with Roman influence. We must site Nigel Mills: Celtic and Roman Artifacts: whilst he does not list a parallel, the "Thetford Influence" that he alludes to may exist in this beautiful and excessively rare ring type. The band of the ring is constructed of two gold lengths strengthened as they are with eleven gold roundels. further gold nodules decorate the two shoulders. The bezel frame has a gold twist band feature, intaglio there after. A Master Piece, Important and Excessively Rare.

This ring was said to have been found by an estate worker in the 1930's and has been in several private English collections for many years having recently been released via probate sale. .
