EXQUISITE NEW GUINEA TARO POUNDER. EARLY 20TH CENTURY.
Originating from the Murik Lagoon region of the coastal New Guinea, offered is a little gem of a pounder. Four flying foxes decorate the central handle and extending above that are a series of masterfully carved curvininear motifs. The pounder measures 14 inches (35.5 cm.) in height and features a smoke encrusted surface with rich glossy wear. The pounder is in superb condition and has a beautifully worn surface. This piece was originally purchased from a private collection in England. A custom metal museum mount is included.
