Extremely Rare Faceted POUDRETTEITE - Mogok

One of the rarest collector's gems available, gem grade Poudretteite was only reported a few years ago - see Gems and Gemology Spring 2003.  At well over 1/4 ct. this is actually quite large for the species and more rare for the fine clarity and cutting.  There are just a few wispy needle type inclusions that are generally lost in the brilliance.  The color is a soft but distinct pink and the cutting (quite unusually for these) is very well done.  One of the few available.

This gem is totally natural and untreated.  Poudretteite has a hardness of 5 on the Moh's scale and is suitable for a limited use in jewelry.  This gem was imported into the US prior to any ban on Burmese goods.
