Extremely rare Sugilite natural stone 20" necklace
About this Necklace:
It is 20" long with a sterling silver S-clasp closure for a flat but secure fit. These translucent sugilite beads have medium-dark reddish purple natural color under incandescent light as shown in the pictures, and their color is a rich purple under daylight. The suglite was hand-ground and polished into free formed but as close to oval shaped beads which were then drilled and strung in an 20" length with a sterling silver clasp. The photo above shows a close-up view.
About Sugilite:
Sugilite is a very rare new stone that was first described in the 1940's by a Japanese petrologist Ken-ichi Sugi (thus the name). It has been found in the mountains of Quebec, Canada, Tuscany Italy, NSW, Australia and in rims of the Kalahari Desert region of South Africa, which is where these stones come from. Some say it was only recently found so as to usher us into a New Age.
