I am pleased to offer for sale this FABULOUS EARLY HAND MADE WOODEN BARBER POLE. This barber pole was found in Texas many years ago. I was told that it dates to the turn of the century and it may be early. It was said to have been on the side of the building of a black barber shop. The pole measures 89" to the top of the pole. The ball is removable and adds another 10" to the height. The pole is 24" in diameter. The paint that is on the pole is a very old paint-over. It does have some flaking. The original paint is underneath this layer in most areas. The back side shows some spots where the paint is missing. It is very difficult to photo this pole because of its size. This landing is the only place in my house that the pole will fit with the ball on the top. This is a FANTASTIC early barber pole just as it is. The winning bidder could take it down to the original paint or you could put a light coat of varnish to stop the flaking. Whatever you choose to do you will have a TERRIFIC early pole.
