FALCON WARE GLENDOZA ART DECO KINGFISHER BIRD VASE
This very attractive ceramic vase was manufactured by Falcon Ware of England. I believe it dates back to the 1930's.
The vase stands 10 3/8" tall. It measures 4 3/8" across the widest part in the center.
Against a blue background, it has a hand painted kingfisher bird perched on a tree branch, on one side. The bird is in relief. Beneath it, near the base, are waterlilies and irises. The other 3 sides have a continuation of the tree leaves and more irises.
The inside is painted very pale yellow at the top, fading to creamy white at the bottom.
There are no chips or cracks, but there is crazing and wear to the paint, due to age. I filled the vase with water and let it sit on a paper towel for a few hours. There was some dampness on the towel around the rim, where it is unglazed. If you wanted to put live flowers in this vase, you could put a glass or plastic liner inside to hold the water.
Impressed into the ceramic on the bottom, "192, Made in England". There is a Falcon Ware Glendoza gold stamp, Hand Painted Ware, and the number 4490.
