This no reserve auction is for a rare antique Elgin size 16s solid 14K gold open face pocket watch in near-mint condition. This rare timepiece was made in 1919 and is one of only 3,000 made in that year. Imagine how few are left in any condition, let alone in near-mint condition like this one! The case diameter is 49mm and 13.5mm thick. The movement diameter is 40mm. The watch weighs a heavy 76.9 grams!

The snowwhite triple-sunk enamel dial is excellent and hairline-free. The blue steel spade type hands are original, excellent and corrosion-free. It has black Arabic numeral time markers with a large sunken center and small sunken second sweep at the bottom. The dial is marked "ELGIN" just below the number 12. The original mineral glass crystal is excellent with normal and light age/use wear with no scratching. The watch is stem wind & set. The wind is silky-smooth and it keeps perfect time. The 17 jewel movement (high grade for the period) is immaculate, with a beautifully damaskeened finish. The movement is engraved "ELGIN NAT'L WATCH CO. U. S. A. 17 JEWELS 22692099".

The rear cover is quite thick solid 14K gold as is the case, cuvee, bow and stem. The rear cover is elegantly yet sinply decorated with a sparkling finely textured finish and a hand chased floral bordered center shield for a monogram, but the watch was never monogrammed, a real plus! The thick 14K gold edge of the watch is finely reeded. The inside of the 14K gold rear cover bears all the proper 14K gold assay marks including "KEYSTONE" in a shield and below that "14K" in a shield with a symbol in a shield below that and the numbers "5549435". Inside the 14K gold cuvee is marked "GUARANTEED 585 14K FINE THE K. W. C. CO. 5549435".  

This rare pocket watch is in near-mint condition. The only issue keeping it from being called mint is a single ding at the middle of the left edge. All covers open properly to 90 degrees and close tightly. Because of the ding at the left edge, a bit of extra effort is required to be sure the cuvee is tightly shut. Once shut it stays tightly closed and the rear cover snaps  shut securely. The front cover opens and closes perfectly.
