FINE FRENCH ENAMELED GILT BRONZE DESK BLOTTER MID 1800s

Presented is a striking enameled desk blotter with gilt bronze mounts. The top of the blotter is beautifully enameled on copper with green and yellow flowers, scrolls and leaves on a deep red background. The edges of the blotter are ornamented with gilt bronze scrolls and beaded trim. The copperplate that has the enameling is soldered to the gilt bronze border. This is all original construction. The blotter has a great quality construction. It completely disassembles into three separate parts by unscrewing the top handle. The blotter was made between the 1850s and the 1880s, probably in France.

The condition is excellent. We did not bother to clean this piece up too much, but it disassembles very easily so it would not be difficult to clean it up more. There is one small flake to the enameling in one corner, but this is only noticeable upon close inspection. Overall the enameling is in fabulous shape. There are no dents, no splits, no beraks, and no repairs.

The desk blotter measures 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches and stands 2 3/4 inches tall.
