This seam opal with host rock (bulldog shale) specimen was recently mined on the Old Dead Horse Gully opal field of Coober Pedy Australia.

Collectors specimens like this are becoming increasingly rare due to the major fields being mostly worked out and declining mining activity.

This rare specimen displays some beautiful white based red green fire in the vertical and is exactly as it came from the mine apart from the polished cross section on the face.

Will make a spectacular aquarium or desk/cabinet ornament, or a brilliant rare addition to any mineral collection.

WEIGHT: 202 carats.

This piece would yield several carats of gem opal, but is certainly better left as a rare specimen.

DIMENSIONS: Approximately 49 mm by 49 mm by 31 mm with the main exposed gem window around 35 by 21 mm..
