Despite the romantic aura surrounding his search for the Fountain of Youth, this book is the first biography of Juan Ponce de Leon in English. It remedies the neglect of Juan Ponce in the English-speaking world, and also fills gaps in Spanish biograpies. Research into Ponce's 1513 and 1521 trips to Florida, which included the examination of old Spanish maps and a little-known Italian one, led the author to new conclusions about the landfalls and landing places during that expedition.
