Published by Charles Scribner's in 1924, this science fiction shocker, made into a movie, is about scientists, giant rats, experimental farms & food, 329 pages, deckle-edged. 3 full-page plate b/w era illustrations, one on frontispiece.   Binding is green cloth or buckram with embossed floral pattern & gilt lettering at the spine, about 8" tall.

 

In very good condition, the wear is:  "5" written in pen at title page  top corner, page slightly yellowed. Amber spots at back & front endpapers, large "D" penned in front endpaper.   No evidence of ex-lib.  Front board beginning to crack. Gilt lettering at spine dulled, top spine worn & edge tear, corners slightly bumped.

 

This lesser known novel by the author of The War of the Worlds has a fine art nouveau binding!
