FROM THE INTRODUCTION: A thought come to my mind thirty years ago. Azoreans are Portuguese, but their ways of living are different from the main land, and so is their cooking. For this reason, I have put together a book with good, delicious foods that Azoreans remember and miss....especially when they find themselves in faraway lands. Most of these recipes have been passed from one generation to the other by word of mouth.
The Azores are composed of nine islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about 900 miles west of the Portuguese coast. Each island is different in shape, in size and in ways of living. Cattle, fish, cheese, butter, wine, sugar and a variety of fruits are some of the products that are exported.
All of these recipes were handed down to me from family and friends....all good cooks. And so to everyone of you, hoping you will enjoy all of these good and tasty foods, from the famous "Fish broth of Pico" to the desserts and liquors of the islands, here are "Foods of the Azores Islands". -- Introduction by Deolinda Maria Avila

HOW I GRADE THE BOOKS I SELL:
Have you ever seen the term "Good for its age" when looking at a books description? Remember it doesn't matter how old or how new the book is as any defects should be described thoroughly.
AS NEW CONDITON: A book as bright and fresh as the day it was published. The dust jacket is without tears and in the same as-new condition. Flawless in every aspect, it is unread and unused. (Book sometimes will be called "Very Fine" or "Mint").
FINE CONDITON: No defects, but yet not quite as new. The book is nearly flawless and shows only slight signs of age. Book will look clean, crisp and very nearly new.
VERY GOOD CONDITION: A bright, clean, tight copy that shows signs of being read more than once. May have minor defects noted, such as edge wear, signature or book plate of the previous owner, slight chipping or tears to the dust jacket.
GOOD CONDITION: An average used book. No pages are missing, but the book shows signs of wear and aging. It is generally sound and free from major defects, although defects are noted.
FAIR CONDITION: A worn book that has complete text pages, including maps and plates, but may lack endpapers, half-title pages, etc. The binding and jacket are also usually badly worn. Defects are noted.
POOR CONDITION: A badly worn book, but with a complete, legible text. Defects are noted. Most collectors will purchase this condition as a reading copy or a filler until a better copy can be found.
EX-LIBRARY or BOOK CLUB EDITION: ANY ex-library or book club edition of a book will be identified as such, regardless of condition.
