*NOTE*
THIS VINTAGE HORN HAS A LOT OF COSMETIC FLAWS BUT NOT BAD FOR IT'S AGE. THERE ARE SEVERAL SMALL DENTS, DINGS, SCRATCHES, AND KNICKS ON THE HORN AND THE PADS ARE IN NEED OF REPLACING. THE VALVES HAVE BEEN WELL GREASED AND SLIDE EASILY. THE CASE IS ORIGINAL SO IT IS WORN AS WELL. THE VALVES ARE NUMBERED IN SEQUENTIAL ORDER FROM 1-79200 TO 3-79200 AND THE MOUTHPIECE IS THE ORIGINAL HOLTON HEIM, I BELIEVE THIS IS ALL OF THE INFORMATION NEEDED ON THIS CORNET. GOOD LUCK
FRANK HOLTON ELKHORN VINTAGE 1923 SILVER PLATED CORNET FEATURES:
The Frank Holton Company of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, is the oldest continually operating wind instrument company in the United States.
Formerly the first trombonist in John Phillip Sousa's band, Frank Holton opened an instrument shop in Chicago in 1898.
Holton's initial success came from his formula for trombone slide-oil, but he soon began experimenting with instrument design.
The company continued to expand, producing several models of brasswinds, as well as percussion instruments, and in 1917, Holton moved his company to Elkorn.
In 1964, the Holton Co. was bought by Leblanc, a division of Conn-Selmer, which is itself a subsidary of Steinway Musical Instruments Inc.
The Frank Holton Company produced cornet and trumpet mouthpieces called Holton Heim. Miles Davis started out on a Heim mouthpiece. In his latest year, Davis used a copy of the Heim made by Giardinelli.
Recordings
Gustav Heim is heard on records made by both the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Karl Muck, and the New York Symphony Orchestra under Walter Damrosch.
