FRENCH RENAISSANCE Gobelin Tapestries, RARE 1887 Chromo
~ presented by Kensington Gallery ~

This is a large and spectacular chromolithograph from a rare, folio-size volume of historical ornamentation designs published in Germany in 1887 (NOT a repro, actually printed that year). It will come to you in archival matting, ready to frame.

The chromo illustrates motifs from Gobelin tapestries of the French Renaissance. Illuminated gold ink is used in the image, which is titled, in German:

FRANZOSISCHE RENAISSANCE 66.

The print is from Der Ornamentenschatz by H. Dolmetsch, published in 1887 in Stuttgart by Julius Hoffmann (who also was publisher of Dekorative Vorbilder, the late 1800s-early 20th century annuals of modern design). Nineteenth century German lithography is arguably the best in the world and plates from Der Ornamentenschatz are simply gorgeous. (Der Ornamentenschatz is extremely hard to find; this volume was located in Germany and is one of only a handful available in the world.)

VERY GOOD conditon -- excellent color; blank on the reverse.

Before shipping, it will be matted in acid-free, conservation materials (matting in antique off-white color) to 12 x 17 inches. Including surrounding borders, the plate measures more than 9 x 13 inches.
