Featuring twin "Dia del los Muertos" skeleton sentinals and an intricate, floral vine border Vintage style art Retablo features a high quality postcard print of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo on a hand painted, wooden plaque. The intricate floral border surrounding Frida's image is one of a kind. There are two little skeletons standing guard on either side of the portrait. Recycled wood and aluminum tab hanger lend a rustic charm to this lively Mexican Folk Art style art tribute. On the back is a brief synopsis of the life and art of Frida. What an original and thoughtful gift!
*A “retablo” is a wooden plaque, popular in Mexico. Retablos honor deceased family members, saints, or famous figures. They are made with "found objects" and photos clipped from postcards, magazines, and prayer cards. Retablos are especially popular near birthdays and holidays such as “The Day of the Dead.” People place retablos on altars or collect them to decorate their walls.
This retablo is approx. 7" tall and 5" across. It can lean on a shelf or hang from the aluminum tab on back. This lovely art piece has several coats of varnish, so you can hang it just about anyplace. Artwork is signed by Diana cARTer, Corpus Christi artist, school art teacher, and workshop presenter.

Artwork is signed by me, Diana cARTer. I am a Corpus Christi artist and public school art teacher with over 800 kids per year. I enjoy presenting multicultural workshops in the community and sponsoring after school art clubs. In my classes, participants create sugar skulls, retablos, mini altars, ceramic skeletons, painted purses, folk art paintings, jewelry, and many other projects. I am currently working on a web site especially for teachers and those who love making "dead" art. It will feature lesson plans, workshop photos, and more of my art.
