An intricate filigree prayer wheel, measuring about 8 inches long, this handmade Tibetan Buddhist prayer wheel has delicate gold-washed filigree work all around the wheel. There is silver Tibetan Sanskrit writing circling the wheel, interspersed with all the handwrought filigree work. It spells out "Om Mani Padme Hung", the Tibetan Buddhist meditation prayer. The top, which pops off to reveal a handmade paper scroll of prayers, is also covered with filigree work, with alternating "turquoise" and "coral" glass beads. The handle is a turned wood handle. The wheel is spun by the weight of a cast brass weight that pulls the wheel in a clock-wise rotation. The belief is that as the wheel spins, the prayers float outwards and upwards. This type of prayer wheel is still in use in Nepal today. This is a new, unused prayer wheel. (The slight red cast in the photos is a reflection).
