This book contains two designs, SHALIMAR and SAXONY. Both designs are studies in shape and texture. The texture is achieved by layering perle cotton on top of wool.

SHALIMAR was designed as a companion to PATCHOULI and is an intermediate level design. In addition to the textural contrasts, SHALIMAR is also a study in shade contrasts. The sections stitched in perle cotton only are light and airy exposing some of the tan canvas. These areas are darker than the sections stitched in a wool and perle cotton mixture that do not leave any canvas exposed. It is the contrast between light and dark which creates all the intriguing geometric shapes in the pattern - squares, rect­angles, triangles and quadrangles. The design is based on an old quilt pattern.-. called "Cogs and Wheels". Do you see the octagon "wheel" surround­ing the center square? There are 24 stitches plus 4 blackwork patterns in this design.

SAXONY is a beginning level design stitched on 10-count canvas. It is an Aran style pattern consisting of 15 stitches. Instructions for SAXONY begin on page 26.

CONDITION:
The soft cover book with 32 pages is in Good+ used condition. It measures 8-1/2” w X 11” h. Overall shelf wear with chipping and light wear showing to covers, corners and edges with a little sticker with a stock no. on it on front cover. Interior pages are clean and free from rips, tears, stains, and notations.
