The Fantastic Four is a fictional superhero team appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The group debuted in The Fantastic Four #1 (Nov. 1961), which helped to usher in a new naturalism in the medium. It was the first superhero team created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist and co-plotter Jack Kirby, and a cornerstone of Marvel Comics' 1960s rise from a small division of a publishing company to a pop-culture conglomerate.
Reed Richards, a brilliant scientist, took his crew on an unregistered space ship launch to become the first to do interstellar travel. An accident occurred, and the crew was bathed in cosmic rays and was forced to return to earth. When they got back to earth, the realized that through the cosmic rays, they were changed on the most basic molecular level. They each had super powers, some with great abilities and little change to their physical appearance, but in the case of The Thing, the side effects were very noticeable and monstrous.
The four had a choice, to hide their powers and shy away from society, or to embrace their newfound abilities and use them to help the very people that might consider them freaks. Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben all decided to face their fears and as The Fantastic Four, they have become more powerful than they would be as individuals and their bonds have made them a family of sorts, ready to take on any challenge. Now, they are adventurers of a new kind, and have traveled to places and domains humanity has never thought even existed.
Fantastic Four No. 78 Thing No More!: Arriving on Earth from the Microverse, Reed, Ben and Johnny are happily surprised to find the threat of Galactus has been averted. Elsewhere, the Wizard has been released from prison and vows revenge against the Fantastic Four, creating "Wonder Gloves" that increase his strength. After testing the weapons out, he flies towards the Baxter building to get revenge on his foes.
Meanwhile, Reed has come up with yet another invention to change Ben back to a normal human, and surprisingly this time it works with no side effects. Just then the Wizard attacks, and without the added strength of the Thing, Reed and Johnny are unable to match the villains new powers.
While at the hospital, the doctors have some concerns about the baby Susan is carrying. Speaking to Crystal in private they show her medical charts which show that the cosmic rays in Sue's body could effect the baby. Back at the Baxter building, Johnny and Reed manage to trap the Wizard and knock him out. While disarming him of his Wonder Gloves, the Wizard revives and manages to escape. Ben finding himself useless asks Reed if there is anyway that he can change back to the Thing so he's not as useless in the future, Reed tells him that any attempt to change back into the Thing will be permanent.
