Fiber Optic Collimator for ST Cables
Here is a fiber optic collimator assembly that can focus the output of a fiber optic cable to a narrow beam or a small spot suitable for engraving, etching, cutting or burning. This fits fiber cables with an ST type connector. Check my other auctions for collimators with other connectors. This works great with the ST bare fiber adapter I sell to quickly and easily convert a raw fiber to a beam or spot.

The collimator block is 1" x 1" x 3/8" and has 6-32 mounting holes on 2 sides. The focus is adjustable with the lens on fine pitch threads. This can be used with lasers up to 5W with a fiber NA up to .22. It works great with the 1 to 3 watt fiber coupled 830nm laser diodes that I and several other sellers offer on eBay.

Here I've got one of the collimators set up with a 1 watt 830nm fiber coupled laser diode like I offer in other auctions. With the focus properly adjusted, it is able to burn very small holes at a distance of 2-3 inches. This means that it can be used for finely detailed engraving and etching. The bracket shown here is not included in this auction.

Here you can see the holes are a small fraction of a milimeter. Theoretically, you should be able to focus the laser beam to a spot the same size as the fiber core diameter. With a 100um fiber, that gives a resolution of 0.1mm or about 0.004 inch.

CAUTION
This device allows you to change the highly divergent and thus not very dangerous output from a fiber coupled laser into a narrow beam or a finely focussed spot which can be extremely dangerous, especially when used with invisible infrared lasers. Be sure to use appropriate safety goggles and avoid stray reflections when working with this.
