  While a microscope has a nominal magnification, such as 40x, the precise magnification needs to be calculated.
• To obtain precise measurements with any microscope, the eyepiece reticle must be calibrated with a stage micrometer, and a mathematical calculation made to know precisely the distance represented by the graduation marks on the reticle.
• If you need to make precise measurements, you will need the stage micrometer that we can provide as an option.
