 The Dinka people are a group of tribes living on isolated Southern Sudan, whose population numbers more than three million. Similarly to Masai people, the Dinka lives turn around their cattle. Herds not only provide them with food and status, but have a deep emotional and even spiritual meaning. Bulls are considered close friends by the Dinka men who name their sons after them. Unfortunately, the Dinka have been tremendously affected by the neverending wars of Sudan. Due in part to this situation, their culture and traditions are almost unknown to the western countries and the forms of visual art they produce have only started to be discovered very recently.

Dinkas also wear jewelry made of beads, or brass. Valuable necklaces made of rows of venetian beads dating back to the seventeenth century are weared by rich men. bracelets are worn by both men and yourn wormen mainly at their upper arms, but also around wrists. They normally are flat and decorated with the caracteristic small circles. Men can also wear big rings. Nevetheless, the more common jewelry is made of regular beads or brass and includes ear-rings, rings, bracelets and ankle-bracelets. Strands of triangular blue beads can be wear as necklaces or belts.
