This full size (4/4) violin was handmade by the master violin maker Guan Jian in China in 2004. Mr. Jian has over 20 years of experience as professional violin maker and he was a student of Haide Lin (from Jay Haide's violin). He studied particularly Stradivarius since his beginning and that's why he do so wonderful Stradivarius models. The fine and realistic antique patina gives to this violin a perfect old look. The violin has been professionally set up with new bridge, soundpost, Pirastro Tonica strings, fitted ebony pegs and tailpiece and nice Aubert bridge. This violin is ready to play. This violin comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This is an absolutely gorgeous instrument with fantastic wood and superb workmanship of the kind rarely seen, even in handmade violins. This is truly a master made instrument from the original inlaid purfling, to the fine corner and edgework to the highly artistic and individual scroll. The varnish is the rich, oil varnish usually found on only the best Italian violins which enhances and reveals the superior figure to the spruce. The intense flame of the back is dramatically holographic and again shows of the richness and fiery transparency of the varnish.
The tone of this violin lives up to the expectations that this violin's appearance and quality can only hint at. It is an elegant, sophisticated and pure tone-powerful, clean and responsive. It is sweet and warm, with flexibility and layers of complex colors that reveal themselves subtly at first but then can be drawn at will by the player. The violin can be brilliant, penetrating and dominant, and then with only minor adjustment in bow pressure develop a mellow, soulful sweetness that is captivating. The more I play this violin-the more impressed I become. Many violins can be loud but it is rare that a loud violin can sound as clean and pure when played softly, and retain its rich, full core regardless of how its played.
