This demure Australian cedar box reflects in terms of austerity- the pared back ‘sensible’ aesthetic of Asutralian Colonial furniture of the period. Soft of form, with well pronounced curved corners and slope edged lid- the box lacks nothing in terms of workmanship- yet retains a certain homespun charm. Still retaining its thick burgundy red velvet lining in good condition. This was no doubt crafted for a sweetheart – and remains perfect today for someone (or something) very special. This would look beautiful on a tall boy dressing table or other cedar piece- or in any period room with an Australian sensibility.
Condition is fine- no chipping or cracks. An odd saw mark or cut across the open edge of the box at front, just adding to the character not detracting one iota.
