Fine Chinese Boxwood Handcraft Carved Big Ruyi Statue. Boxwood is a kind of precious wood in China. It grows very slowlyl. The dia of the tree is only 15cm over 40~50 years. Thus there's a saying going "Thousands of years are hard for boxwood to grow". Boxwood carving is one of the 3 carving in Zhejiang, China. This item was carved into a Ruyi image. Created in the Six Period (220-589), the Ruyi was a symbolic object made of bamboo, wood, bone, horn, jade, stone, bronze, iron or coral. The head came to be made in form of a cloud or glossy ganoderma. On this item, the head of the ruyi was carved with an elephant and many ruyi. The body of the ruyi was signed by the artist. An elephant is the symbol of 'A Scene of Peace', suggesting limpid rivers, calm sea, and peaceful and affluent life.
