Bidding has ended on this item. Item:Fine Vintage Lidded Makah / Nootka Indian Basket |
Up for auction is a beautiful and finely woven Makah / Nootka Indian beargrass and cedar bark basket with a lid and the beginnings of a nice patina. This basket has an appealing design with three green ducks swimming around the perimeter, flanked by two red stripes, one on the lid. There is also a red circular pattern on the lid, and the inner rim is made of the customary cedar bark. The base has the customary woven cedar bark start which identifies it as actually being from the Makah tribe. A very nice vintage Northwest coast basket!
The basket is small and finely woven, measuring only 2" across at the rim and 1½" deep. This nice basket is in just beautiful shape with no breaks, splits, or any damage. The pretty colors are clear and very little faded. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket's condition. This authentic vintage Makah Indian basket will make a terrific addition to someone's collection of Northwest Coast Indian baskets.
