Refrigerated Centrifuge
Up for auction is a Fisher Scientific Marathon 3200R Benchtop Refrigerated Centrifuge in decent used condition. The outside of the centrifuge has some scuffs and scratches on its surface, but no damage that could be considered 'major'. Inside the lid, the inner well looks very good, as does the rotor (this auction includes a Fisher 4-Place Swinging-Bucket Rotor, cat.#: 04-976-005, pictured below). The control panel and the displays are also in good condition, with no signs of damage. Please refer to the pictures below for further details.
We tested this unit, but we did run into some problems. When we first plugged it in and powered it on, the displays lit up and we could hear fans inside come on. By pressing the 'Stop/Lid' button, the lid unlocked and we were able to get into the well. This was when we checked out the rotor, which as stated earlier, looks great. We closed the lid back, set the temperature setting to -5ºC (the starting temperature was 19ºC) and immediately we heard the compressor kick on. We then pressed the 'Start' button, which should have started the rotor spinning (it was set to 4000 rpm), but after a few seconds, we got 'Err 1' on the display. We tried setting the speed lower, but we still couldn't get the motor to spin. We tried several more times to get it to spin, but to no avail. We decided to let it sit, to make sure the refrigeration part worked, but it seemed to take a long time cooling down. After about 10 minutes, the unit had only registered a 3º drop in temperature (it was then at 16º). We opened the lid, and realized that there is probably a problem with the thermometer, because the inner well was DEFINITELY colder than 16ºC.
Because of the apparent problems with the thermometer and the motor, we must sell this unit as-is. We do still guarantee it to be as described and pictured, and to function as stated.
We thank you for your interest, and wish you happy bidding!
