Florentine Floral Tole Gilt Tray 16x12 Italy Italian

This is a lovely tray with a stellar color scheme. This one is a new take on a classic theme. It is quite heavy and features a stunning floral theme. There are pink roses, poppies, carnations and many other flowers under the high gloss finish of this beautiful tray. A clean resin finish adds so much to the antique look of the tray. Moulded handles are an extra elegant touch. The tray is made of a light resin material. It measures 16" by 13"

This one is a repro of classic trays. It is brand new in original packaging so the condition is perfect. But it will look great with your vintage trays since the colors and style are so close.

The tradition of using these trays in Florence dates to the 15th century. They were called " Birth Trays" or "a desco da parta". They were commissioned prior to the birth of the child of a wealthy family, painted in tempera and gilded on both sides. The mother was served sweetmeats and other treats on this fabulous gift after giving birth. They were considered an heirloom for the infant to be handed down in the family.
