Condition:see below, A

A+ means excellent condition with no tears, creasing,marks,pretty close to mint

A means very good condition with no tears or creasing or marks

A- means good condition but may have some light creasing,some age discolouration, or light marks

B means fair and with some creasing, possibly small tears, which I try and detail, sometimes foxing (age related brown spots and browning often found on vintage documents).

C means poor, likely to have creasing, tears and foxing. Usually we would only list an item in this condition of some historical importance.

        Pre-opening = flyer produced before the opening of the show,usually advertising the start date

OLC = Original London Cast      OBC = Original Broadway Cast

LLC = Later London Cast      LBC = Later Broadway Cast

Some Notes About Flyers

I know that most of you know what they are but just in case, you will find below some general points, which may help.

Whether you call them flyers or heralds or leaflets, they come in many different shapes and sizes.

London/West End (relatively) Modern flyers - generally 10 cm by 20 cm, approx 4 by 8 inches, pre-opening flyers are usually one single sheet, printed both sides. Post-opening flyers tend to open out into 2 sections or sometimes 3 and usually include production photographs.

London/West End older flyers  - come in a variety of sizes but often tend to be larger than the contemporary flyers. They also tend to be single sheet, with colour print on the front and usually one colour print on the back. Not very often but sometimes, they are blank on the back.

Broadway (relatively) Modern flyers - generally 10 cm by 23 cm (a bit taller than the London ones),pre-opening flyers are usually one single sheet, printedboth sides. Post-opening flyers tend to open out into 2 sections or sometimes 3 and usually include production photographs.

 Broadway older flyers - come in a variety of sizes but often tend to be larger than the contemporary flyers. They also tend to be single sheet, with colour print on the front and usually one colour print on the back. Not very often but sometimes, they are blank on the back.

In some case flyers are rarer than programmes/Playbills, which is why you might be surprised at the price they fetch. By their very nature they are ephmeral and people usually throw them away unlike porgrammes, which you tend to keep as a souvenir.These days you see them for most shows but that was not always the case and for shows pre-1970s, they can be quite hard t come by - either because they were never produced in the first palce or because they have been (sadly) thrown away.
