For the Temple:

The Fall of Jerusalem

by G.A. Henty

Audio Recording by Jim Hodges

Setting:  AD 70 – Palestine and Jerusalem – Roman Destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple.

Story: Mr. Henty tells an exciting story from the record of Josephus. The troubles in the district of Tiberias, the march of the legions, the sieges of Jotapata, of Gamala, and of Jerusalem all come to life. In this impressive and carefully studied historic setting, you will follow a lad, John of Gamala, who passes from the vineyard to the service of Josephus, becomes the leader of a guerrilla band of patriots, fights bravely for the Temple, and after a brief term of slavery at Alexandria, returns to his Galilean home with the favor of Titus. The fall of Jerusalem is brought to life in this classic.

About G.A. Henty

Henty, being a Victorian Englishman, wrote his historical fiction from that worldview. His stories are fiercely historically accurate and full of noble character – honesty, chivalry, integrity, courage, loyalty, diligence, charity and justice. After thoroughly studying the time period on which he wanted to write, he would quickly pace back and forth in his study dictating a story to one of his stenographers as fast as the man could take it down. In this manner he could easily fulfill his contract with his publisher for three books per year. Before he died in 1901, he had written 122 books, and had been dubbed “The Prince of Story-Tellers” by contemporary critics.

About Jim Hodges

As an avid historian, book lover, dedicated Christian, and home educating father of three, Jim Hodges immediately recognized the value of the historically accurate Henty novels. Being an award winning actor, Jim knew that he could bring these entertaining and educational novels to life. He began Jim Hodges Productions as a way to provide these classic Henty novels to families and to encourage young boys to become Mighty Men of Valor.
