The Side-Kick

A 4-wheel bike built for two, designed for cruising the neighborhood or retirement village.

We have received many requests for a heavy duty 4-wheel adult cycle. The Side-Kick was designed with this in mind. The frame is built from 1 & 1/4" PVC reinforced with steel tubing inside and can carry up to 400 lbs. No welding is required to build any American Speedster Cycle. The right side frame is open for easy access, with the seats at chair height.  The driver sets inside the frame and the "side kick" straddles the right side rail simular to riding a conventional bike.  This compact design allows the bike to be used on most paved bike paths.  There are pedals for both riders.  This four wheel cycle can be built as an open roadster or with an easily removable vinyl top. (No more getting caught in those sudden showers!) Both models are outlined in the plans. If you would like to build the side-kick for a single rider, just ask for the updates.

The carrier on the back can be used for shopping bags or fishing gear. This cycle can support an electric drive wheel.

The frame is designed to use common 20" bicycle wheels front and rear. The left rear wheel is the drive wheel, and carries the 6-speed Derailleur. The brakes are cantilever design. The seats are available at discount or marine stores . They can be found in various colors and are very light weight. The Side-Kick utilizes readily available common materials whenever possible. Like the Golf Coaster, the frame and even the steering gear are PVC tubing, which is available at any home improvement store. The frame can be painted very easily and of course, will not rust.  The hardware is made from aluminum. The side kick will weigh in at about 100lbs many bikes are very heavy and difficult to pedal.  Like all american speedster cycles, it can be built from new or used bike parts.

Tools required to build the Side-Kick:

An electric drill

Shears or saw to cut the PVC.

A glue gun to fabricate the top

Common hand tools

A vise for bending if you are making your own hardware.

This four wheel bike is an excellent source of exercise for the physically handicapped.

The plans contain many drawings and detailed instruction to assist you in the completion of your own custom four wheel bike. We also have a website available , with many photos to further assist you.
