Marble sculpture of François Pompon: Polar Bear Sculptor François Pompon (French, 1855–1933), who spent fifteen years as a stone carver in the studio of Auguste Rodin, won critical success for his plaster model of this polar bear. He subsequently made a number of replicas of the sculpture in various sizes and media, one of which is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. Our reproduction is cast from a direct mold of the original. Cast marble, hand finished. Available in small (length 9 1/2 in., height 4 1/2 in.) or large (length 18 in., height 9 1/2 in.).
