“Rene Lalique, who died in 1945, is famous for the beautiful glass which he made from the 1890s to the 1930s and which is eagerly sought by collectors today. Lalique’s glass production was extensive and varied, ranging from decorative vases to radiator caps and including table services, clocks, desk accessories, and mirrors and lighting fixtures. He was particularly renowned for his perfume bottles, some of which he made for Coty, Houbigant and other French perfumers. He was particularly fond of graceful nude figures in Art Nouveau style but his designs included flowers, birds and fish in great variety. As the Art Deco style emerged in the 1920s Lalique pieces followed the trend.”

”Although his chief fame is as a glassmaker, Lalique was also a noteworthy goldsmith and jeweler, creating cups, flacons and statuettes in gold and striking original jewelry for European royalty and such well-known actresses as Sarah Bernhardt. Examples of this work are covered fully in this book in addition to glass. Collectors will find the wealth of illustrations of the greatest value as well as the history and descriptions of the pieces. Check lists from factory catalogues and sales rooms will be particularly useful also.” This is an indispensable book, which would make a fine addition to the permanent reference library of the collector, dealer, or historian of French art glass.
