| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Stamped brass. Entirely original, genuine, authentic and period. This token was issued during rationing in France - during or immediately after WWI. Could have been issued to French or Allied troops or the locals. It entitled the bearer to one kilo of bread - something in excess of a full-sized UK loaf today. 24mm wide - a little under one inch. Armentières is the actual town included in the WWI British troops' song "Madamoiselle from Armeteers, parlez-vouz?" etc. Not exactly militaria, but a very rare and attractive piece of wartime social history. Sometimes almost as important as their weapons. Insured postage in UK £1, insured airmail elsewhere £2. These amounts insure only to £39. Should this sell for more then additional insurance charges will be applied at cost. PayPal, UK bank cheques or transfer. I accept payment in equivalent US dollars or euros but not by non-UK cheque. All items promtly mailed and well received. Bid with confidence. |
