Fujiwara Kanefusa Katana Showa Period Koshirae Sword

Offered is a beautiful example of Japanese swordsmith craftsmanship made by the 23rd generation of the Fujiwara Kanefusa family from what was known as the Mino Province, current day Gifu Prefucture.
This sword is signed and dated Showa Period (1940) Fujiwara Kanefusa 23rd Generation of Seki.

This katana has been taken back to Gifu to research its roots and has been evaluated by the 24th Generation Fujiwara Kanefusa, which with much patience kneed down and removed the fittings from the blade, and with a slight teary glare in eyes mentioned that he had made this blade with his father. He mentioned that this blade was a special order for a Japanese soldier during WWII. He explained that the katana was made with a full length nakano to withstand the riggers of battle and at the time of the blade's creation it was fitted with military fittings. Just imagine the the pride that this blade was made with, a blade that was to represent the heart and soul of Japan on the battlefield.

Mr. Fujiwara has authenticated this blade and has estimated its value to be $5,000 to $7500 in shira saya. He is the 2007 All Japan Sword Making Champion and his son and grandson are following in his foot steps. Currently the cost of having a new blade made by the Fujiwara family is $25,000.

This katana is a little under 2 Shaku 3 Sun, and is in excellent condition and is fitted in koshirae. It's fittings are mostly from the same period. The tsuba is Edo period, roughly from the 1800's, beautifully crafted with a crane theme that match the menuki.

This is truly a wonderful piece for any sword enthusiast or swordsmanship practitioner, as this sword is not only a true work of art, but is a symbol of Japanese pride and spirit during a time of turmoil and what was to become the rebirth of the modern samurai soldier.
