The Winged Liberty Dime series is one of the most popular in all of American numismatics. The misnomer "Mercury" was applied by the press at the time of this coin's debut in 1916 and has obviously stuck. This Dime has remained a fixture in American culture for many years, a faithful companion through two world wars and the Great Depression and is still a highly prized and very popular collectors mintage even today!
This set of Winged Liberty Dimes includes the years 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944 and 1945 (the last year of it's mintage).
The Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints are all included. This set consists of one dime for every year from each of these mints.
Each and every one of these 15 specimens exhibits crisp sharp detail and full radiant original mint luster. Incredibly smooth satin fields, reflective surfaces and super sharp devices, individual bands of the reverse devices remain sharp and delineated. They are housed housed in a special "Brilliant Uncirculated Investor Set" holder designed specifically for these Mercury Dimes which has kept them in such great condition.
As most Mercury Dime collectors know, the most desirable issues of this coinage are those with Full Split Bands on the reverse, which means all of the bands that hold the fasces together on the reverse must be clearly and completely separated. The bands on the ends of the fasces must be separated, as well.
There are 6 Mercury Dimes included in this set that exhibit all of these coveted characteristics of a Full Split Band.
These stunning Mercury Dimes coins had been awarded a very conservative grade of MS64 by Barry Stuppler himself in 1987. While they are not professionally graded by a company such as PCGS or NGC, it is strongly felt that all 15 of these Mercury Dimes specimens are in a Mint State condition of at least MS64 with some specimens even higher.
Look at the photo above, you will see the solid strike and blazing luster these beauties are ideal, well struck, blazing with minimal bagmarks.
It is easy to see why this coin's design has been a long time favorite of collectors and investors!
