THIS IS A FABULOUS, SCARCE AND GENUINE COMPLETE CHESS SET.  TURNED IN NATURAL BOXWOOD AND A DEEP WARM BROWN HARDWOOD WHICH IS POSSIBLY EBONY (MIGHT BE ROSEWOOD OR ANOTHER EXOTIC WOOD). ALL FOUR ROOKS (TURRETS) ARE  IMPRESSED UNDERNEATH WITH " CALVERT  189 FLEET STt ". THIS ADDRESS WAS THE WORKSHOP OF JOHN CALVERT AND HIS WIFE DOROTHY FROM 1791 TO 1840.

THE KINGS MEASURE 3 1/4 INCHES HIGH, THE QUEENS 3 INCHES HIGH, THE PAWNS 1 3/4 INCHES HIGH.                                                      .               . THE SET FEATURES MULTI-KNOPPED KINGS, QUEENS WITH BALL FINIALS, BISHOPS WITH OPEN MITRES, THE KNIGHTS WITH THE WONDERFUL HORSES'S HEADS, ROOKS AS TURRETS, AND PAWNS WITH BALL FINIALS. THE CONDITION IS VERY GOOD WITH THE ONLY DAMAGE BEING A 1/4 INCH NICK IN THE BLADE KNOP BELOW THE TOP BALL FINIAL ON ONE DARK PAWN. PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOGRAPHS FOR THE DAMAGED PAWN AND THE MAKERS STAMPS ALTHOUGH NOT TOO SHARP I'M AFRAID!
