So in you the pursuer, hunts for Senator E. over the morning paper, till the clerk of the club comes saying: That Mr Edmunds is not a member of the club. Briefly: Henry Adams, just from Japan, promises to meet you today, this eleventh of Nov., at my house, at six o'clock, to dine with you. Be punctual. No refusal: or I shall send the proper officer of the Senate-today, dinner at six." Fine condition. With original envelope, 4½x3¾, signed: " Geo Bancroft". Addressed by Bancroft to: " Mr. Senator Edmunds". Fine condition. GEORGE EDMUNDS (1828-1919) was Republican U.S. Senator from Vermont from 1866-1891, serving as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee for 17 years. Historian GEORGE BANCROFT was Polk's first Secretary of the Navy and established the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. He later served as U.S. Minister to Great Britain and Germany.
