Reviews
"…ImpOSCar
captures much if not all of the original’s unique sonic signature,
and its added features take it to a whole new level. We could easily see
it being the go-to analog synth in a small studio’s virtual arsenal.”
-- Recording/January 2005
"The impOSCar
is incredible!! I have rinsed it out on a new remix already & I have
to say it’s the best VSTi I have got since the Oddity. The filters
are amazing." -- Robbie Bronnimann (Howard Jones, Tektonik)
"It's immense!"
-- Lee Groves (Terminalhead, Britney Spears, Basement Jaxx,
Janet Jackson)
"Having been
a member of the original Oscar owner's club in the mid-Eighties, I was
very curious (and dubious) to see how impOscar would measure up against
its mentor. You see, there was always that ONE sound that you could get
out of the original Oscar and not from anything else which made it really
quite special. Well I can honestly say in comparison, after having worked
with impOScar for some months now, the answer is simply: Better - and
better. Very inspirational sounds, ease of operation, full polyphony,
fatter-than-fat bass and many other very cool features make it without
doubt one of the best software synths on the market in my opinion. And
most importantly, you can still get that ONE sound that sounds like nothing
else. In fact, you can get quite a few more than just one! Bloody brilliant.
Get one—now!"-- Geoff Downes (Yes, Asia)
"As an avid collector
of analog synthesizers and an equal enthusiast of modern plug-in based
soft synths...I am always a little scared when a company tries to recreate
not only a classic, but in this case something I own 2 of. Let me say
this, the day after I received the impOSCar, we boxed up both my beloved
Oscars and put them in storage. This plug-in is nothing short of flawless.
Quite simply the best soft synth I have ever heard. The filters alone
are astonishing and I must say, although my pair of Oscars have mad sentimental
value to me, I can't believe I can carry them around with me in Audio
Units versions on the very laptop I write this on!…a home run."--
BT, songwriter/composer/producer (Madonna, Sarah McLachlan, Sting)
"The sound is
simply incredible! The most fun part is to achieve completely unexpected
sounds by customizing the harmonics of the user waves. It's a shame that
my job is to recommend good synths because I want to keep this all to
myself." -- Hiroshi Fujimaki, DTM Magazine Japan
Unique Twist
on a Unique Synth
The OSCar from the
Oxford Synthesizer Company in England was a unique breed in its time.
Its digital oscillators with Additive Wave Matrix combined with analog
filters gave it the capability of delivering sounds like nobody had ever
heard before—or since. Few of these units ever made it across the
Atlantic, a handful of elite musicians such as Keith Emerson and Stevie
Wonder being the exception. The impOSCar delivers all the goods found
on the original and more. The software version features user programmable
waveforms, built-in effects, polyphony and programmability. impOSCar also
include a unique, easy-to-use interface for mapping MIDI Continuous Controllers
to its programming controls.

World-Class
Patches
Not only does the
impOSCar have programmability that was never possible on the original
OSCar, it comes with over 500 designer patches programmed by musicians
who really know their way around this synth--Billy Currie (Ultravox),
Mark Moore (S-Express), Rick Smith (Underworld), Lee Groves (Basement
Jaxx, Terminalhead), Tim Dorney (Republica) and Paul Wiffen--the original
OSCar sound designer and OSCar programmer to Stevie Wonder and Jean-Michel
Jarre.
You can use the impOSCar
by itself or as a plug-in from most popular host applications including
Live 4, Cubase, Logic, GarageBand, SONAR, Digital Performer, ACID and
Pro Tools LE/TDM. Compatible formats include VST 2.0 (Mac/PC including
VSTi), RTAS (Mac/PC) and Audio Units (Mac). In other words, you can integrate
with the rest of your studio and use it just about any way you want.
