Presented for sale is a Girard-Perregaux 10 carat gold filled Art Deco manual calendar watch dating to the 1960's. Girard-Perregaux has built a reputation for producing beautiful watches to the highest standards of quality and precision and this watch is no exception. In excellent overall condition, the original unrestored dial looks great as does the case. The movement is running perfectly and keeping time with the calendar function operating correctly. A new leather strap has been fitted, the crystal has recently been replaced and a new crown looks to have been recently fitted so this collectable vintage watch is ready for immediate use. Triple signed on the case, dial and movement, as with all of my watches, authenticity is backed by a full money refund guarantee.

The Girard Perregaux signed dial is original with a satin silver finish and hours marked by applied gold coloured batons. The hands are in very good shape and the recently replaced crystal crystal is clean and clear. Located at 3 o'clock is the date aperture.

The 10 carat gold filled case is in very good condition with the expected signs of careful use over the years but nothing of any significance that I could see to highlight. It measures approximately 29 mm across, excluding the crown . On the inside of the case it is signed "GP" and a presentation engraving can be seen on the outside of the rear cover.

The Girard Perregaux signed 17 jewelled movement looks crisp and clean, runs strongly and keeps time.

The watch is fitted with a new lizard grain leather strap.

This is a collectable vintage watch, manufactured by one of the oldest and most prestigious niche Swiss watchmakers. It is in great original fully working condition; a rare and collectable timepiece. Do not miss the opportunity to bid on this vintage watch.

Girard Perregaux Watch Co. History

Girard-Perregaux established a factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1856 after the watchmaker Constant Girard married the watchmaking heiress Marie Perregaux. Girard presented his Tourbillon with three gold Bridges in 1867 after years of research into the functional use of gold in watch movements. This achievement was awarded the gold medal at the Universal exhibitions of Paris in 1867 and 1889. Girard has been given the credit for developing the concept of the wristwatch in 1880, following an order by Emperor Wilhelm I of Germany for his naval officers. Two thousand were made, the first large-scale production of wristwatches in history. However the idea was considered unmarketable and production was discontinued. It was not to be until the Great War (1914-1918) that the idea was reborn. In 1969 Girard-Perregaux out-paced Switzerland’s Beta project by developing the first popular quartz movement, the now standard frequency for quartz oscillators—32.768Hz. The company has always been and remains to this day a highly respected, yet relatively low-profile niche manufacturer in the upper echelons of watchmaking known as Haute Horlogerie. The current owner Dr. Luigi “Gino” Macaluso, who bought the company in 1992 said " “You don't wear a Girard-Perregaux to show off, it’s more a state of mind than a status symbol.”

The charge for watches sold for £500 or less will be 10.95 GBP by Royal Mail International Signed For. This provides a maximum insurance value of up to 500 GBP subject to Royal Mail conditions.

If you are purchasing an item at a price above £500 and pay using Paypal we will send the watch by courier. In order to receive their protection service, Paypal’s rules require me to send the watch to you with full on line tracking and a signature on delivery. I cannot accept the full risk of loss or damage for more expensive watches. Therefore I have to use a courier service as Royal Mail either provides full on line tracking (Airsure) or obtains a signature on delivery (International Signed For) but unfortunately not both. The cost of using the courier service is 45-£50 GBP to most countries but I will shoulder part of the cost and charge you 29.95 GBP. If you wish me to send the watch to by Royal Mail International Signed For at a cost of 10.95 GBP and with insurance up to 500 GBP I can do so if you pay by direct bank to bank transfer.

We pack our watches very well to avoid damage but very occasionally a problem may occur due to rough treatment in transit. We provide you with a no quibble full refund, including postage or we will undertake any repairs that are necessary, if the watch is damaged or if in any other way differs significantly from the description. If we have not stated that the watch has been serviced you may wish to have this work done particularly if you intend to wear the watch on a daily basis. On request, we can provide you with details of independent watchmakers to whom you can send your watch for servicing.

We provide comprehensive details of our watches, including very clear photographs taken with a high resolution macro lens which shows detail not visible to the naked eye. We also invite you to ask questions if there is anything else you need to know. If you are buying at auction we cannot provide a refund if you decide your watch is too small or you do not like it for some other reason. Please take care to consider the dimensions of the watch case as if it is a gentlemens’ Art Deco rectangular vintage watch, they were made smaller than contemporary watches. Do also please bear in mind that your watch has been used so will not be as new and a fault can develop unexpectedly as with any vintage item.
