GLEN ALDEN

COAL COMPANY

 

Around 1850 huge deposits of Anthracite Coal were found in Pennsylvania and Railroads sprang up to bring it to Coastal Ports.  One of the most prominent of these was the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad & Coal Company which by 1870 became the Glen Alden.  Anthracite - Hard - coal is very rare and much more efficient than common Bituminous - Soft - coal.  It requires a special processing plant called a "Breaker".  100 Years Ago young boys were used to sort the pieces which were then put onto conveyor belts and finally into Coal Cars.

[The Certificate you will receive bears Registration Number F2185.  It is made out to May J Storr and is dated February 17, 1930.  It has the normal cancellation holes and was folded and then straightened out a long time ago.  It measures about 7.5 inches by 11 inches.]
