Aubusson rugs have been fashionable for centuries but have declined in production. The global recession in the late 1980s lead to increased cost of labor, and production of the rug was hard to maintain and eventually discontinued. The technique of producing Aubusson rugs has shifted to other regions such as Asia, where they have been revived under the careful supervision of French designers and artisans.
Despite making of Aubusson rugs in flat weave and many of consumers were repeatedly requesting to have the same rugs made with pile rugs so finally such rugs became available in plush pile.

Due to limitations and high cost manufacturing, these products are not widely available in rug stores.
Aubusson rugs are dominant in floor covering as they enhance the ambient to a royal appearance.
