GOLDEN-AGE ATOM ORIGINAL ART! UNPUBLISHED

This is a page of original ink artwork for THE ATOM, a super hero character that appeared in DC's ALL-AMERICAN COMICS. The art is in great shape. It was drawn by JOE GALLAGER, the regular artist on THE ATOM, who was a member of THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA. The written description on the back of the art says that this was from an unpublished story. Here the ATOM appears in his original costume. It is said that DC editors had ordered original artwork to be cut up and destroyed in the 1940's and 1950's so not much of it exists today. People who valued the art would cut the art into 3 pieces carefully cutting between the three tiers of art, then smuggle it out of the office. Apparently that is what happened to this page. It was neatly cut into 3 pieces then put back together in a sturdy plastic covering. The original art board is sized 13" by 18" and has lettering guides pre-printed in light, non-repro blue. I had to make three copies in a copier and piece the sections together to scan it for this auction. My copier reproduced the no-repro blue lines darker than they appear on the art. The art is particularly nice as THE ATOM appears in 6 of the 7 panels, and they are all action panels. Art from this era is not likely to turn up too often.
